A long day .....

Hi there,

Well - it's been a long hard day and we all feel very wrung out. The news is not so good. This morning the neurosurgeon confirmed that Sara has a malignant tumour (P-net tumour).

However, after a discussion with the oncologist tonight we have some rays of hope. The tumour is one which will respond to treatment with a reasonable success rate. It is going to be a long journey and treatment (12 months) will include both radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Tomorrow we will know more but tonight Rob and Sue are staying with Sara in Rm 5. They are all feeling a little stronger this evening and are preparing themselves for the next step.

The next couple of days are going to be busy with many meetings with various experts of the different fields associated with Sara's treatment. We ask if you can all continue to be patient and allow the family some space to come to terms with the situation.

However we all get great comfort from the blogs and texts of support that you are all sending - please keep them coming as they are really making a difference during this very difficult time. Sara reads every word of the blogs we print off (often several times over) and values them highly.

Thanks once again for the ongoing support.

Regards,
Robyn

Dear Sara
We too have been checking all day for the news. It's great that not only does the little b have a name I can spell; but also that there is treatment to beat it. Hang in there, Sara, and every time your ears burn it's us thinking, cheering, praying and backing you. We're with you all the way on this.
Love to you, Rob, Sue and Kate

Sue, Bill and Bridget

Hi Sara,
Well the news isn't what we wanted to hear, but being realistic, I think most of us realised there would be a battle ahead. So here's where we really "DIG IT IN!!" (in rowing terms!)
This is where you get to shout, rant, rave, SWEAR, kick ass, punch lights out, and in general, get REAL NASTY with this 'nasty little b"! (But never stop smiling, even tho sometimes it's only on the outside, it still makes a difference). We'll all be here to help, in any way we can. Obviously it's going to be a long haul, but as I've already said, girls can do anything, and especially you girl!

Now, the Super 14 is about to start - you can probably see the Lancaster Park (Jade WHAT Stadium???) lights from your room -so that Crusaders beanie I promised you is on the way! Now you just have to organise your own personal Sky reception and Bob's your uncle - that treatment won't be half so boring! Speaking of Bob Giles, even HE will admit that while the Crusaders always get off to a real shaky start, they always come out on top in the end, and so will you, of that we have absolutely NO doubt!
See you in a few days,
Heaps of love from the Macs

Hi Sara, Rob, Sue and Kate
Well no one expects the Spanish Inquisition (or 'p-nut tumours' for that matter!) Thought of you all heaps through the night. Hope that a sunny morning and a new day is more encouraging than yesterday. We can only echo what everyone else has said: you are Young twice over, fit and healthy, have races to win, people to love and life to keep kicking (as well as teachers to laugh with or at depending on the subject choice!)
SO GET ON WITH IT!!
Much love always from all of us
Alan, Adrienne, Tom and Fred (and Endo-san!)

Hi Sara
I have been keeping up with news of your progress at this link and Robyn called me last night to tell me what yesterdays' events had brought.
I am sure you are feeling quite strange today and your mum and dad and Kate will be too.

I am thinking about you a lot and thinking too that you will find you are able to cope each step of the way ahead. And I guess that is actually all you need to be able to do -just one step at a time. In fact when I get really philosophical... I think that is all any of us do all the time!
So lots of warmth caring thoughts to you, Sara from
Felicity

Hi Sara (and Sue, Rob, and Kate),
Have just read about the news. It sure presents some challenge for the time ahead. However I am confident that with your determination and the wonderful support from your family and friends you will beat this "b.....".

Thought the following words make a lot of sense at a time like this -
"The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen."
Frank Lloyd Wright

Sure have been and will be thinking of you. Take care all of you.

Lots of love
Peter

Dear Sara
As Wayne said all your hard training is going to come into it's own. Take each step one at a time and everyone around you will help you up to the next one - my goodness there's enough of us out here!!
Constantly thinking of you

Hey Girlfriend, Have read you have been set your next big challenge. When life puts you at the bottom of the hill at least its not hard to figure the way back.So far you have climbed well and a lot of people intend to help that continue. Val Mac stoops to use the Crusaders as an example but I would be shocked to think you would consider auctioning your underwear to get more support from your fans as did Mr Carter.Your smile is enough to do that.
Our thoughts are with you every minute.
Luv, Hugs & xxxxxx

Hey Sara if you can judge a person by the quality of their friends, then you must be one heck of an individual (as if we didn't know). In particular, ANYONE who has a friend who can remember all the words to Atom Ant is one very lucky person. And Mascot - Trace, as a fellow fanatic and devotee of the mighty invertebrate, Precious Pup and Pa Hillybilly; I salute you!!
