Its been busy and an up and down few days for Sara
Hi everyone
Back to blogging - apologies for the lack of updates in the past few days! We have been very busy the last few days with the kidney function tests on Thursday, and visits from the art therapist, social worker and OT on the same day and the radio at the end of the day. The radiotherapy has made Sara very nauseous despite the NASA medication (the anti naus drug she is using was designed for astonauts to use in space!). So we are benefiting from the space programme on 2 fronts now with this and the titanium plates in Saras head.
Friday was also a busy day with a brief visit from Barry and Jude (friends from Wanaka) while they were in town, Sara visiting Nicki for some more meditation training and then seeing the oncology consultant and doctors before the radiation to try and sort out the medication for the nausea and discuss the longer term plans for Saras treatment. We finally got home around 7.00ish after picking up a beautiful present for Sara from her Uncle Peter (Garnett)- an orchid which now graces her bedroom - thank you Pete, she loves it.
However we were not home long. As a result of the effects of the radio and Sara getting more and more nauseous and finally getting very sick over the next hour or so she ended up back in CHOC for the night on Friday. Fortunately my sister Ruth was here and was able to comfort Sara while Sue and I sorted her and Sara for the overnight stay. They stabilised her condition very rapidly with a drip and she had a comfortable nights sleep with Sue staying over ( there is a parent bed in each room as well) and me heading home for a midnight feast of pizza. Thank you to the wonderful staff at CHOC and especially the nurses on duty that night for the very prompt attention on arrival.
Sara spent most of yesterday in Room 2 at CHOC but by mid afternoon was feeling like eating a little again and on top of the nausea. Her medication has been altered so fingers crossed it will reduce this side effect. She has a respite from the radio until Monday afternoon and while still very tired yesterday afternoon was returning to old self again and having a few smiles. She spent some time just lying around and having a spa before heading to bed early.
Last night I headed off to the Super 14 match with Ruth and cousin Harry. We had bought tickets for all the Young Ones but with Sara not up to it (she was going to do the full face paint job) we found some very willing Crusader supporters. There were a few lonely O-T-A-G-O.... yells from the stands but nothing really too intimidating. By the way Bob did you hear the joke about the little boy, or did we hear it from you?? - something to do with his Mum and Dad beating him up and he decides he doesn't want to live with them and decides he will go and live with the Crusaders because "they don't beat anyone". Ah excuse me ... who beat or should that be thrashed the Southern men last night.....again. Maybe you will be eating Vals pies on Monday.....again.....and yes Val I know you will be rubbing it in....do some for us!
Just to remind you Bob - for the record (courtesy of the Press - that fine upstanding Christchurch paper) the Crusaders have not lost at Jade Stadium in almost 2 years (maybe thats why only a few Highlanders supporters turned up) and its five years since they ("the C-R-U-S-A-D-E-R-S") went down to the Highlanders and how many Super 12 Finals have the Crusaders made and and how many have they won????? Yes, it's a new name but the same mission, and despite Split Enz "History Will Repeat Itself!"
Kate is back in Angel Fire and starts work today - she had a great trip back and did a great job of getting herself through all the airports etc. but there is not a lot more snow!
Today its a beautiful Canterbury day here at Redcliffs and will be a restful one for Sara, so please no visitors without phoning first.

Hi Sara
Throwing up is the pits love, and I trust they get the anti nausea drugs sorted for you.
You sound so calm when you blog Rob and Sue, but I'm sure your parents' hearts are breaking when you see your little girl so ill.
Please know we are thinking of you all with love and support.
Your orchid sounds great Sarah. At my Dad's funeral a friend told a story about how Dad, when they first arrived in New Zealand and were arranging to get married, a double wedding, went to the florist. English was definitely their second language but Dad had the reputation of being 'good' at English. So he was sent to the florist to arrange the flowers and the poor florist despaired at these Dutch people who wanted 'horseshit' for their wedding - of course he meant orchids! My Dad was also best man at lots of weddings - he was the only one with a suit!
Lots of people around town with the rowing.
Love and best wishes to you all
Connie and Taylor
I feel for you Sara. That horrible feeling of feeling soo sick makes you feel revolting. Having said that I can't imagine what you are going through. Poor love.
Nick and Bel are off to the Shannon Noll concert tonight. I don't know if you have heard of him. He is an Australian singer. Nicholas LOVES him and was given a ticket for his birthday last year so he and Bel and his cousin are going.
Bel is off to work shortly. She is working in a surf shop on weekends. SHe got the job as a christmas casual last October and they said they really liked her and wanted to keep her on which is great because she loves it and the money is good. Especially as she loves to spend it!!!! Easier on my purse!
Our weather is settling down a bit here now. It is not as hot but I don't think we are quite ready for the cold either. Melb ourne is really buzzing at the moment with the Volvo Yacht race and the Commonwealth Games starting shortly. The Australian Open tennis just finished so there are lots of overseas visitors. The kids and I went to the tennis. We all loved it. Must go to take Bel to work. All our love to you all. Thinking of you all.
Susan, Bel and Nick xxx
Rob, thanks for the update. I hope you got my e-mail last night. Sara, I hope today is a restful day for you and you are feeling a bit better. We are off to Lake Poaka later, meeting Libby and Eddie and Rosie, we will have 2 blow-up rubber boats for the kids. The challenge will be keeping Ryan and Kyle safe, as it always is near water. When I get a seconds breathing space I will look to the hills and send you some positive thoughts. Sandy.
Hi Sara
I do hope you are feeling better today and can enjoy some of the Canterbury sunshine (I'm told it's very hot in ChCh today).
Don't worry too much about missing the game last night - I guess I can let you into "our" little secret - yes, the Highlanders match plan, to allow you guys to win the first challenge on home territory, giving you a false sense of security. Watch this space.....
Oh yes, I must inform you of the most important news from TAS swimming sports......OH HAU we love to WIN.....sorry your house just didn't stand the pace. We were just toooo good.
Just off for a walk by the Omarama stream to enjoy the sunshine etc..
Check your PO box in a day or two for a wee pressy. Take care, thinking of you, Heather McO
Hi thee Sara, sorry to hear that you have been feeling so yucky. Hope you feel a little better today.
Girls and I went to rowing today and caught up with Hannah at villa Maria tent, didnt track down cheese though!!!!!!! very elusive girl!!!!!!!!!
We are thinking of you all heaps and appreciate the updates.
Regards to Rob Sue and Kate..
Take care.

Hi Youngs feeling a bit guiltty that I didn't know about the Crusaders' game until I saw the end of it last night while my flatmate was flicking channels. Yay us! Hope the tum is starting to settle Sara and you are not feeling to 'offal'. Hope you got my text about the video - will send a copy of a tape too when i can find a player with double tape deck - bit of relaxation - i fell asleep during one session at yoga - so it does work.
I've had a long sunday in the heat here at school and starting to feel a bit faint from hungriness (if that is a word) so might consider a tribute to Kate and have some decent fush and chups (trying to gat my Inglish ucksent buck to my kiwi ucksent - hope that's phonetically Inglish enough for you to poke some fun at me again sara!)
Love Racey
Sara and the Young Family
Been a wee while since we have been in touch but we continue to be inspired by your courage. Hope the nausea has settled down, Sara, and you are coping with this horrible heat.
Deb and I went for a walk at Godley Head this morning and the heat just about did us in. Luckily I was able to go for a swim along with the thousand other people at Taylors Mistake.
Good to see you are a Crusaders supporter, Sara. We watched the game at home last night with my ma and pa and wasn't it a good win! We are meant to be having Richie McCaw, Chris Jack and Corey Flynn along to our club's (Sydenham)junior registration on Tuesday. Corey is a Sydenham boy so we usually get him but the other two will be something special for the boys and girls.
We are seeing a bit more of Arthurs Pass recently with Gemma working up there and a bit of work for me in the area at Castle Hill and Cora Lynn. It always brings back memories of the good times there with all the Youngs.
Our love to you all. Chris, Debbie and family.
Hi Sara and Youngs, I really don't want to get into a debate about rugby for God sake but I think the Highlanders were robbed by not being awarded a penalty try for that Shocking early tackle clearly we I mean the team were going to score. Thats enuf about that. Im not sure weather I mentioned it but I am going to HONGKONG in three sleeps. Connie is comming to and some other Twizel people, should be a hoot. I am swimming for New Zealand as Bill wittily remarked in the staff room on Friday it will sure beat bowling for Columbine. Weather very hot but windy and much cooler mornings.
Hope everything goes well for you 2mora Sara and you don't get sick. Take care lots of love and hugs Jacq & Jake. P.S Ohau is the best Jake and Caitlin, Nicola Fox, Willis etc wot champs
Hey jerry!

Hi team,
I went to Dean this evening and commented that I hadn't known Gemma Stewart was working at Arthurs Pass. He looked astounded and asked how I knew that. It's amazing what you learn on Sara Young's blogsite I replied to him.
I hope things settle down for you all soon. I did send you some positive vibes from Libby's yellow blow-up boat in the middle of windy Lake Poaka, from Sandy (and the redheads).
Dear Sara
You probably thought school life was busy but these days you need a daily planner to keep up with all the appointments.
Mart is in Dunedin with Toby and Sophie. They rang tonight. Sophie has a new flat not far from Toby's. His is evidently close to the uni. He has a very small room - 3m by 3m and a sleeping platform on a mezzanine floor with a ladder. Sounds a bit dangerous for those nights when his head could be a bit fuzzy wuzzy! He is taking the place of someone who is changing unis. To choose rooms the original four drew straws and that's how he got this room. But it has good points - not so much space to lose things in! And it will warm up more quickly. There's always a bright side somewhere - mind you, I don't need to tell you that. You are the expert at finding the bright side and spreading smiles.
Zoe is out at the free concert in the Park. Dave Dobbyn is singing and OPERA singers! Some how I think Zoe has gone more to wander around with her friends and it does end with great fireworks.
And here at home I amn surrounded with piles of school stuff awaiting action.
Much love, Sweet Sara and to Rob and Sue and Ski Patroller extraordinaire Kate.
gidday matie pie!!

Hey girlfriend. When a bloke is down you sure know how to kick him just like that Crusader player except he got 10mins in da bin. With the knowledge of crusader game history that the Young Ones obviously have, I cant compete so my first thought was to turn to straight abuse but you are lucky my little 'Pirahna fish' I'm above all that. Sorry to read that the side effects are knocking you around a bit but we feel that with some of the best medical minds in the world on your case they will soon sort your medication out.
Hope you get to watch some of the winter olympics on tv. Some competitions really exciting so guess it is going to be a while before we get 'Caketin' to school on time.
Hopefully we will be back in ChCh very soon to visit, until then our thoughts are always with you.
Lots of luv
Bob & Helen
Hey Sara!
I've been a bit silent of late on this site, however everyone else seems to be expressing - so very much better than I can - the things that I have trouble making sense of, so what they say goes for me, and Wayne too, OK!
So, even tho I haven't been blogging, I do check your site at least a dozen times a day, (it's set up as a favourite on my work computer - and I don't mind if Bill reads this 'cos I bet it is on his as well!)
We think of you and talk about you constantly (your burning ears aren't a side effect of your treatment - it's just all of us out here cheering you on!!), and hopefully we'll get to drop in and see you very soon.
Now, as for the.... " match plan" and the so-called..... "off day" for the Southern men - YEAH, RIGHT!!!!
All I will say on the subject is that Bob was unusually subdued when he came into the office today -need I add to that???!!
We didn't meet Cheese this weekend at the lake - but her Dad won a raffle prize that I really coveted - it was 6 bottles of Lindauer Blanc de Blanc - sighhhh.
I hope he really really really enjoys them!!! Would hate them to go to waste!
Hopefully we'll meet Cheese at SI Sec Schools....
Heaps of Love from Val & A Wayne In A Manger

hey gurly. just got back not long ago from our first day of our leadership course. it was allright aye. i mean no offence to mr feasey or nothing... but the morning session was soooooo boring! and someone ( i dont really wanna say who because it mite offend them ) was sitting beside me and had the worst B.O i have ever smelt in MY WHOLE INTIRE LIFE! eww it was yuck! but apart from that it was a really wicked day. we went down to the lake and had canadian canooing (sorry cant spell) and kayaking and i capsized all by myself and then got back in my kayak while i was in the water... well thanks to jeremy for helping me though lol. and then we had to make a raft. and man did our one go so so so so wrong. coz its me, deanna, nathan, carthnick and jeremy in our group and we soooo dont know how to communicate and we didn't tie our knots properly and before we even got into the water, our raft was in peices. and then i ended up in a water fight and fell on my bum! shame on me! lol. we still got stuff to do tomorrow, hopefully the water is a bit warmer! we even get a catered lunch! how cool is that? lol. sweet well besta go now dude. but hope those astronought (sorry can't spell AGAIN!) wonders are working and you get better a.s.a.p

Hi Sara
just picking up from what Nadia said, yep, we do have it easy without having to juggle things around.
Training is going well and our 06.00am sesions are quite good fun, great way to start the day and the sunrises have been spectacular as only the the Mackenzie Country can provide, will take some pics for you.
Zed did a 07.48 on the erg last night and is crowing like a cock roster, only managed an 08.55 on the water thismorning though, guess she was still tired from the erg workout as I guess you must be after reading all your "blogs" every day.
Looking forward to catching up with soon when you feel up to it.
Rob and Sue, I will get in touch with you as Mark Burtt from Ch.Ch. Boys has a couple of tickets to the OARSOME AFFAIR fund raiser in CH.CH. which you may like to attend.
Thinking of you all
Wayne (in a manger )
hey dude. we had our last day of our leadership course today. it was all right aye. mrs g had a talk this morning so we didnt have to listen to one of mr feaseys lol. he hassled me about it this morning. i even got comments from mr giles, miss hack, frost, mrs g and mr feasey about my blog i wrote ya yesterday! it must have been pretty good if i got that many comments aye? i might start a career in it, "writing blogs to sara young". i can just see it in the headlines cant you? lol. lunch was sweet too aye. big as pizza, lots of sammies, fruit, pies, cakes, the works! we had to do stuff down at the lake this morning. making another raft. this time we actually suceeded and made it to the island and back! YAY! and then some team course things with frost. like getting over the "electric fence" (actually it was rope) without touching it and stuff like that. it was very entertaining actually. our team, "THE MONSTER MASH" lost the tournament thingee we had going on but oh well, we were like so way better then them but we just wanted to make them feel special lol. you know how it is. lol. i even learnt to belay! lol. how cool is that? so now i can like belay or the time.... um ... yeah or not? but yeh... back to normal old life tomorow! YAY! bring out the champange lol. omg and do you want to hear something like truly random? well i was sitting on the couch after school watching spongebob (as ya do... you know what its like) and mum came in and was like, "some french lady is travelling the world and shes staying at our place tonight but i dont know who she is". and i was what the f#$%? you can use your imagination there k gurl? and then yeah i looked out the window and sure enough some random lady was pitching her tent outside! so yeah shes like some teacher whos travelling the world and shes coming into school tomorrow (courtesy of me, im trying to show all my good leadership qualities... i dont know what it has to do with leadership but it sounds cool lol) and yeah shes taking pictures of some little kids and getting them to draw pictures and stuff so that she can take them back to her school in france. shes like really nice and she is in fact tucked up in her sleeping bag right this moment. i still cant get over it though aye! i mean come on, its not everyday that that happens is it? well i hope not anyways! hehehe. oh yeah and i got a new job too! at the country style. easy peasy nice and greasy job aye. just smile and look happy to everyone! NICE!!! sweet well better cruise... and get sum sleep to prepare myself for a FULL DAY OF SCHOOL tomorrow. lol. ahhhhh... im such a drama queen sometimes. oh yeah and mrs g said that you got a new hair do!! wooohooo! you have to take sum pics and put them on so we can check you out hehehe.
sweeet, love ya lots. luv me xox
