The weekend came and went.........and some good news!

Hi everyone

We had a great weekend and managed to stay away from the hospital all weekend! It was very peaceful for all of us and we were able to enjoy some great weather at home, here above Redcliffs. Sara had some restful time interspersed with some visitors, visiting her Nana and Grandma and phone calls. Thursday and Friday were pretty busy with hospital things, sorting out some school stuff, seeing Diana the Art Therapist, getting hairstyles updated and getting an MRI scan done and meeting with the oncology staff at the end of the day.

Yesterday we had an early start to be at the hospital at 8.00am for Sara's chemo, but we did get home early in the afternoon and Sara was able to rest till dinner time.

Today we have been in for the radio treatment (#15 - we are halfway through the radio now - which is a real milestone). In a further 5 radio treatments the whole CSF system radiotherapy will be finished and it will then be focused on the tumours for the final 10 treatments. Sara also spent some time with Diana, visited her friend Paige at Ronald McDonald House who is also being treated for a brain tumour, and then went to see Nicki for some relaxation and meditation to help her with her sleep and rest. And then it was home mid-afternoon for some rest.

The MRI preliminary verbal report from Mike Sullivan on Friday gave us some very good news. The second tumour hasn't got any worse (which is very good news since it is an aggressive cancer) and the radio and chemo treatment appears to be having some effect upon this tumour with the preliminary view of the scan showing some positive signs. This is great news but of course we know there is still a very long way to the end of this journey. This was the best news we have had since the 6th January and it was nice to be able to soak it up over the weekend and share it with family and friends personally. We are awaiting the radiologist report which we should get tomorrow.

Tomorrow there is a hearing test, more chemo and radio and a healing touch session. Tonight we are enjoying a wonderful Canterbury evening following a wild storm last night and have Robyn and Mac coming for dinner (roast chicken - yum yum!!!). I hear Sara stirring down below so its time to go!

Dear Sara, Kate, Sue and Rob
It's wonderful to get a positive progress report. January 6 seems a long time ago. After so many hurdles and hard knocks, it feels great.
Love you - Jane, Mart and Zoe.

PS Only news from Toby - 8 am lectures are very early for a boy and first few days went "ok" - that's the long text version! After all could have been "K"!

Hi Sara, Sue, Rob
Fantastic news that that horrid tumour has been given a firm stop growing message. And a milestone too, with half the treatments behind you. Well done to the whole Young family. You are an inspiring and awesome team.
We had a lovely gathering at Shorty's today for Clare's birthday (remember its a leap year birthday so I think people were saying she turned 8 or 9). Kelly blindfolded her from school so she wasn't sure where she was going. I got a box of lemonade iceblocks to share around the kids, then sat down to relax for a moment, next minute poor Ryan is screaming - a bee sting just below his mouth, the bee must have been enjoying the iceblock too. Everyone was really helpful with helping get the sting out, getting some baking soda and antihistamine etc. What a lovely group of people we have here, but a special family is missing at the moment.
Sue, I will give you a call Thursday lunchtime to see if a short catch-up that afternoon is a possibility. Love, Sandy and the redheads.

Things getting very serious with the training, Zoe and Catlin apparently hooked up to heart monitors while on the water!!! watch out everyone Twizel is a comin.
Keep up the good work, you really are an inspiration to everyone who knows you.

It is awesome to hear your news "Young family". Keep up the good work Sara and keep up the "splendiferous" support friends & family in being so caring, funny and loving.

Watch out for those lemonade ice-blocks.. "owie" poor Ryan!

It snowed 6cm yesterday and so on top of the previous day's snow, there was lots of shovelling going on in our driveway last night! My neighbours came to help me and they had their little 2yr old with her purple shovel helping. She was so cute!
Have a great week, keep safe.

Super-di-dooper news - congrats to all the team!! Soz I haven't been much of a blogger/texter - school is going well and mad at the same time, but sending you loads of thoughts during the day, will drop you a text shortly, today if I remember, I think we have the second of our staff meetings today (we only have 3 this week!-bleugh).
Had a row last night and netball trials here - what a laugh, talk about travel - passing to the wrong players or not good enough passes - don;t feel like I'm good enough - I mean me? trials? let alone netball? Things you do to make friends eh?
Well a big hi to you all there and a pat on the back for the hospital staff that are doing a great job sezzy... love Mascot

hey miss! its me again... im in art... (again) but i had two periods in a row so you can't expect me to be working hard out all the time can ya? lol. man its cold today! its really windy and blah blah blah. thought i would talk about the weather, because isn't that what everyone talks about when they don't really know what to say? lol. man there are like NO good songs on the net at the moment aye. it sucks! oh yeah and jacq... about the fight. i think jake was getting smart or something. it was pretty full on... for a twizel fight!lol. anyways, let me see what else has happened. OMG! thats right! i blew up a heater yesterday! it was so freaky! because me and cody were in the common room and he was trying to strangle me and stuff (as ya do) and i bent down to turn on the heater because it was like a freezer in there and i didn't really look at the heater and then cody like yelled and jumped up and stuff and i looked down and it was hard out smoking and then it sparked and went...
BBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM
omg it was so scary. and it like fully stunk out everything. and yeah. it was hard out aye. oh yeah and we had this bridge building thing yesterday. man it was... "different". (i just thought i would "censor" it because i know that the teachers and stuff read it). so yeah, it didn't really tickle my fancy, if you know what i mean lol. we had to like sit there while this old dude talked to us and stuff and whenever somebody like coughed or anything, he would be like "um excuse me, have you finished having your conversation?" it was all a bit weird if you ask me! oh yeah ( i was just reading the daily notices because theyre sitting beside me) and pukaki is winning... not that its any good for you since your in ruataniwha and they're losing... but it's good for me because im like the house captain lol. nice work aye? well i think so anyway.
sweet dude. well my tummys grumbling like hard out so ima cruise but yeah... i'll be back... and don't worry i aint going to do all that stuff i done last time lol. im going to do something different. you know me, i always go out in style! (i think that's the saying? well i hope so! lol)
sweet...
"WE WILL MEET AGAIN!"
there we go, there's my wee goodbye thing.lol
love ya heaps gurl. mwah! big fat kiss for the first day of autumn!
luv me xox

works gotten nuts aswell, im at the physio usually just a hour a day after school filing stuff, but now the freezing works have stasrted back my work has like tripplieds!! so its a rush down there after school at 330 for work till 5 then straigh into the car and off to the box (near waimatie) for rowing. i gety home at 930 each night. then i have training at 6am on top of that too!! so its four weeks till a normal life, no more rowing for ever!!! (whatsd the bet ill go back next season)
schools dumb too! weve had athletic day on monday, just prelims againts 2 houses, i won everything!!!! so on friday for finals its a busy day!! waitaki boys prefects are coming and we have to race them, we went to theres last friday and they kicke3d our buts!!! itl be fun though, im racing matt, were 1st runners itl be weird cos i havnt seen him for a bit, we put our relationship on hold for a few weeks until after maadi!!!
last week i did a triathlon in dunstan, got 3rd grr we were winning (i biked) but our runner got cramp and had to stop and got passed. but thats ok!!
this weekend (i think)were off to twizel to train, either that or otematata. (im hoping that owen will havge some sympathy and let us just go to the box!!)
in pe at the moment, my timetable clashed real bad so i start school at 8am straigh after rowing for pe. its good cos that way i have too study periods during the day , although i cant leave school grrr...
so thats a wee rundown of whats gone on, sorry if youve fallen asleep!!
oh yes and the one major thing ive bin doing is thinking of you!! all the time and of how bad its been not to type and hoping your going good at reciting the alphabet backwards!!! zyxwvutsrqponmlkjihgfedcba!!!!!!

Is frezzing here! i'm in the graphics room to do my 'art' (ie writting to you). Rowing was freezing this morning! and we didn't go out till like 7 because it was windy! the weathers been pretty crap here. We've got heart rate moniters for rowing now, Hard out! We did a max erg test last nightgoing up 25 watts every 130 i got up 2 250 watts and my max heart rate at the mo is 193, but i'm gona get it to 200! hehe its so cool being able to tell your pulse! then we did 5 i min sets at keeping heart rate at 180, that was a killer! zoew managed to get her erg to 837 the other night! TANK! still not as good as yours tho! Hey the new word is discursive! it means rambling on form one subject to another, hmm not like you or cheese of course! hey another cool new word is dominate, you dominate sara! we were gona write twizel dominates on the hill opposite the lake but its too long and we don't know how to spell it!
hope that your roast chicken was yummy last night! Keep being strong! love you!XOXO
You dominate!

Hi Sara, Sue and Rob,
Great news about the scan and to see all this ghastly stuff you are having done is paying off! So great to hear that the tumour is responding - at last some positive news!
We have a cold blast of weather through Geraldine today after some lovely warm days which was good as we have just had the school athletics which is always fun. The kids wear some amzing outfits and really gets the school spirit thing. Our kids all did well. James amazed himself by running faster than he thought, and Victoria got third equal in her age group. It is a busy term with school camps just finished and trips away for all sorts of things.
As I said the weather is cold - looks like Twizelites have got into autumn already. Everytime I read a blog from that way they talk about the weather. Hope you get some warm sun soon.
Hope Jacqui has found out about the fight - had a wee chuckle - Mums are always the last to know!
Well Sara hope you are getting some relaxing times at the house, some more retail therapy with little pink supre bags?, and some wasjig time. Plenty of yummy things to eat I hope - do hope you are not off your food!!
Lot of love to you and your Mum and Dad and hugs to you all. Keep up all the great work.
Cynthia, Victoria, Mike, Ben, Andrew and James.
