Still being gypsies and heading north!
Hi everyone
We are just leaving Nelson after being here since Thursday with Mart, Jane and Zoe. We have had a lovely relaxing time here in Nelson despite the dampish weather. We all enjoyed the Crusaders game on Saturday night down at the local pub - Sara enticed Jane to watch her first rugby game in a pub! This one eyed brigade predicted a Crusader win of course and we have little sympathy for those who supported the losing side! We are looking forward to the continuation of the crusade next year!
As Aunty Haybale has reported we had a fantastic time in Golden Bay both at Totaranui and in and around the bay after we left there. Wednesday we took the trip up Farewell Spit on a beautiful fine day with no wind and views for miles. Thanks to Helen and Pam and Hugh at Totaranui for helping us have such a wonderful time in GB.
Today is a beautiful day here in Nelson and we are about to depart to Picton where we meet Robyn and Mac tonite, they are bringing some gear from Chch and we will be sending some home with them. Tomorrow hopefully we will go for a sail in their yacht Morning Cloud in the Sounds. Thursday we are taking the ferry to Wellington and road tripping onwards to Auckland and Russell (where we lived for three years and Sara was born).
The decision to go north has been driven by the Sara's need to continue her gypsy ways....... well we all have the bug now or have always had it........and we think we might get some warmer temps up there. And most importantly we are looking forward to catching up with some of our friends and rellies in the NI as well as checking out some of the favourite spots in Northland.
We plan to go by the East Coast - a place we have always wanted to do a road trip to and have never made it so we are hoping for some good weather! We plan to fly home to Christchuch from Auckland mid - late June, leaving the camper in Auckland.
Sara is doing well and enjoying the time immensely and been having lots of fun with friends and cuzzies along the way. We continue to enjoy the blog and comments ( Sara had a session reading it today) and the emails, cards and messages have given us great support.
Aroha to you all
Sara, Kate Sue and Rob

Great to hear from you all and that your having an awsome time.
Wasn't that win by our boys the CRUSADERS", somewhat interesting when you could see that is!!! But a win is a win and never doubted them for a minute.
Hope you enjoy your adventures up North. Hopefully the weather will be kind.
Good to hear that your all keeping well.

Hey Young Family, Sounds like your having a blast on your trip. Sooo wish i could have been in totranui with you! Sooo many good memories from there. Work is good, Other than having to be inside watching the sun shine in and almost dying of heat, well after work I spending lots of time at the lake with the BF. A few weeks ago I took a 17hr road trip by my self to go pick up a friend from Calgary, sooo much fun but soo much money. Oh well have enough clothers to last me the summer hehehe, not that there is many shops around here. Tomorrow we are doing our regular tuesday dinner there are about 4 of us who get together drink a little wine and have a good time, don't know what will be on the menu yet... Sunday I had a bbq at my house sitting hounse at the lake had steak, corn, potatoes, spinach dip, well alot of food we were all stuffed didn't neeed dessert. Then we went for a kyak around the lake, soo much fun.
Hope all is well, Have fun on the North Island. Miss you all sooo much, BE HUGGED!!
Love from the Canadian Kiwi [wishing she was] DownUnder

Hi cousins,
So good to hear that you are having a good trip. Christopher was telling me tonight that he had called you and had also spoken to Ruth. He was rapt to catch up with you all. I wish we could all get together again. I miss all that family stuff.
Maybe your Crusaders can teach our Bombers a thing or two about football. We are on the bottom of the ladder so far this year!!! I saw that result on the TV the other day. I was rapt for you all.
I remember being a bit of a hippie, gypsy type many years ago. It was groovy!!! My thoughts are with you everyday.
Love always
Susan xxxx
Made it in before Cheese!
Thanks for the update guys. The east coast road sounds a real treat. Is anyone dragging out Cliff Richard's 'Summer Holiday" yet?? Honestly, your travels sound just fantastic, like a cornflake commercial on steroids. (Not implying anything flakey there Sara!) Keep those red and black flags flying around Wellington on Thursday!
LOL Granty
Hi there The Family Young.
Great to get an update on your travels, as the saying goes, 'Don't leave town till you've seen the country'and you are certainly doing plenty of that.
Things pretty quiet in Twizel Town at the moment, Mt. Dobson opened last weekend but other fields still waiting for the big dump. Had a good meter on the Tasman Glacier over the last two weeks so pretty much ready to go for ski season at the 'Rock'. Remeber Ski Patrolling about 26 years ago Rob, ahh the good old days.
Things pretty quiet at lake also, although Sundays brings a few keen enthusiasts out for a paddle.
Missing out on the Masters Regatta at Lake Hood because someone forgot to book accomodation until it was too late eh HANK'
Hope you have many more happy days ahead in the NI.
Thinking of you all.
Go the Crusaders.
Where are you Cheese???
LOL Wayne and Val
Hi Sara and family, great to hear you guys are having a good time together. Basketball is going well for the girls, a few wins, a draw and a narrow loss.
Jake is at boarding school in Dunedin and likes it, he is off to Sydney in the skool hols to visit Jory and take him his snoboarding gear.
Weather has been cold & wet with only a handfull of those frosty but fine days that we alll love.
School quiet at the moment as they are all off to tournament. Keep enjoying yourselves love to you aall
Jacq & Jake
(Hey Wayne, she hardly needs encouraging....!!!)
Hi Guys,
The Gypsy life is heaps of fun eh, we've had a couple of campervan trips and loved every minute ('cept for the horror-night we spent in a sheep paddock in very UNriveting Riverton!).
Tripping around in a camper helps you be a little more understanding on those occasions when you get stuck behind one on the open road.....or maybe not!
Wayne forgot to mention that he'll also be missing the Masters due to actually being in hospital having an operation at the time, so the accommodation was somewhat superfluous!
Thinking of you guys all the time, and make sure you hang out the red & black flags when you get off that ferry!
Heaps of Love,
Val
Great to hear your news. We caught up with cousin Chris last night on Skype.Chris's little one is so cute. Hope you can visit and maybe check out Katies cottage on the Coramandel.
I do soo wish I could be there but I had my visit to Totaranui this year. Enjoy the hippie travels and the wonderful memories.
Today there is clouds in our skies after sun over the last week. The gardens look great, rhododendrons out and all.
Got to go to bed and get some beauty sleep. Hey Kate a friend from San Francisco phoned he was skiing on the weekend at Sonora Pass at 9,500 feet with great skiing and snow. He sent photos, I guess in the USA they ski almost all year too.
wishing you great journeys and adventures. love Ruth and the Kitimat Krew.
Hey girlfriend.
Still no 'Cheese' This is not natural.
Sooo good to hear the travels are going well. One day when we retire we will hopefully follow your footsteps with a motorhome.Seems like fun being able to go where you like, when you like, and stopping when you like, abusing non canterbury supporters along the way.
Its awesome that wherever you travel you never seem very far away from close friends or rellies. No doubt this will continue throughout the nth island.
Regarding the super 14 you may have realised that most of the canty players will be away with the AB,s for next season but the good news,Sara, is that they will,as usual, be able to poach the best Otago boys to win the series for them.
Better go while im ahead.
Thanks for all the great news you are giving us. Our love and thoughts are with you as always.
Bob & Helen.
Hey dudes - cool to hear all is well and you're seeing loads. thinking of you lots. Trying to keep warm and fend off the current cold
take care

TAKE CARE LOVE TO ALL CAROL AND CO
Hey Sue, Rob, Kate, Sara
I trust the ferry trip was not too tiring Sara, and that the weather was kind. When Ryan and Kyle were one and the busy bum shufflers you will recall so easily, we took them and Josh over for a family wedding. Keeping track of twins as they bum-shuffled at high speed down different corridors on the ferry was extremely exhausting! Now they are so fast on their feet keeping two safe would be impossible, hence our decision to fly for yet another family wedding a couple of months ago (when we met you at Northlands Mall).
Anyway, what else? Twizel weather, as Jacqui said, has not been the best, lots of cloudy days and fog, days when getting the washing dry becomes an almost impossible task.
We had a quick trip to CHCH this week, as well as the med. stuff and Dean's work meeting, I took Ryan and Kyle to a wildlife place, Meadowpark or something like that, they loved the animals but the biggest hits were the "old broken trailers" and the "old broken truck." Typical two year old boys, we heard all about the trailers and trucks on the looong journey home. Josh stayed at the Pederson's and came home sporting a badly scuffed toe so has had a day off rugby today. Luckily he passed his first karate grading before the toe incident.
Dean is outside in the cold concreting in posts for making a raised vegie garden - I can think of nicer things to do on cold winter days!
Had a nice catch up with some of the staff last night, an inpromptu meal after Happy Hour at the newly extended Shawty's (very nice, especially the big tables), a pleasant evening, and heard lots of tournament stories, including the fact that the bus had been leaking before they left so the moisture kept steaming up the windows, apparently Mark had to keep wiping the front window clear for Bill as they drove along. Twizel took both 2nd and 3rd in the quiz - go Twizel! and good sports results too to keep Mark happy.
Anyway, take care, thinking of you heaps as you make your way north. The Mahia Peninsula, if you get there, is pretty neat. One of Dean's sisters has a bach there and that is where we spent a week on our trip when the boys were one just after we shifted to Twizel. Also a week when Josh was little. Not so good for swimming or kayaking now of course!
Oh yeah Rob - have you caught up with the 7 per cent wage rise in the offing for you deserved DOC people - about bl____ time is the catch phrase in our house!
Thanks for the e-mail Sue, and thanks for the blogs.
Lots of love, Sandy and the redheads (and the bald one of course, although I still count him as a redhead!).

Dear Gypsies
I can just visualize the caravan, horse, ribbons and bells with Rob at the reins; his spotted scarf tied around his head, his gold chains and dangling earrings gleaming in the sunlight! What a wonderful image! Have lots of warm sun days on your travels up north and we hope you get lots of opportunity to be out on the water.
I loved Grant's and Bob's concern that Cheese had not got to the blog first before them but what can a girl do when she is so busy. Congrat's Cheese on completing the half marathon and yes I will make my way to the post office this week for another Sara postcard!
Our monitor is about to go on the friz as it is displaying a colourful array of yellows, greens and reds! I think we will be making a trip to Prince George in the next few weeks for a new one. We also hope to make it up to Smithers or Kititmat this Summer, over one of the long weekends and hopefully we will get to meet Ruth and family on our journey.
Take care Young Ones!

Its hot in Kitimat, sunshine, wow, we are living in paradise. The last few days have been amazing. I was at a workshop with an amazing lady Rebecca Martel, she taught us about listening to the spirit within. Her journey thru good and bad has inspired many folks on their journeys. I felt so blessed and my cup felt so full. Just had to share that with you all.
I know you are really in Paradise not me but BC is pretty good.
I have been busy thinking about you all and your travels in the North Island. I have never been to Gisborne or around the whole east cape area. I did drive some of the way out to East Cape when Mum and Dad lived in Opotiki.
Keep having more wonderful adventures. Maybe we might hook up via Skype at Chris Burns. We have had some good conversations with Chris, Katie and their little cutie.
Whatever happens keep on being gypsies and travel on..... from a former traveller Auntie Ruth and the Kitimat Krew.
hey gurl... howzit? it was good 2 hear from ya the other day when you were txtn me... HELL YEH! shannons got a car! shannons got a car! guess you're lucky being up north, you won't have to clear the roads up there huh? OMG! guess what... i got a dint in it alreadi! I KNOW! GUTTED AYE? lol. its down the very bottom at the front though and you can like hardly see it so its all good i spose. don't ask how i done it tho k... trust me... you don't wanna know. well yeah, u probably do, but yeah. its shame for me. so maybe another time aye? OMG! one more thing! frost gave me, daniel and jeremy sum gourmet jellybeans the other day in p.e and holy! they were so wicked. the candyfloss ones... honestly im not kidding... when you ate them, you could feel the wee sugary bits melt on your tounge. and the buttered popcorn was sooo good. but it needs more salt! lol. but yeah... im outties!
Slurp and lick mmmmm just eating some....... yummy home made Hokey Pokey Ice-cream. Katherine had left us some whipped cream that needed to be used, so I made vanilla ice-cream and added homemade hokey pokey. It was pretty good. Hmm better not have it too much.Might not fit into my dress for Stefans grad.
I googled hokey pokey ice cream after and read the facts about hokey pokey. Apparently it is the 2nd most popular icecream in NZ. Did you know that NZ exports it to Japan. hmm what I didn't know and now know.
Anyway the icecream was the coolest spot in our 30 degree day. It was a great day to relax. Tonight we were at the lake enjoying some wonderful views. A swim and dinner at Cheryl Brown's.
Lothar got really warmed up today cutting some trees down in the backyard. He scared the dog because of the chain saw noise.
It was so much fun to catch up with you last night on Skype. It was great to have everybody all together.
Maybe Retirement can come sooner if I can make hokey pokey ice cream here. Don't tell Tip Top
heres to more great adventures.
love and hugs from us in Kitimat.

love always Kate xoxo
Hi the Youngs up north,
Hope you are nice and warm! It will be hard coming back down south, but the scenery is definitely well worth it!
I am not impressed - I have not been able to get on here for ages as our computer has been playing up, then I wrote a long letter this aft, went to publish it and it disappeared!!! I threw a wobbly, and here I am back again and it had better not happen again!!
Mike and I are supposed to be in Twizel tonight for Glendas surprise party, but because of the snow, we are still here. Mike has been working and not really coming home unless it is to sleep - slight exageration - but you no what I mean. There is sooo much snow here and piles along all the streets but there is certainly some thawing happening. This would be heaven for Kate - the snowfields will be thrilled.
Love the description from Trish - you could just picture it, and many of us who would love to do a gypsy trip - get away from it all. You will have so many wonderful memories to savour after this journey, and no doubt great photos to go with it.
Thanks Sue for the txts and great to hear you have given the Aucklanders a hard time when they couldn't have their lattes!! There are still plenty of people here without power and phone. Hope the Twizel people are warm and able to get around, and get out of town for a break.
We went into Timaru on Friday to stock up on groceries and there were people everywhere - panicking that they should stock up. As it is 3 weeks since I had done a big shop the grocery bill was rather hefty, and Geraldine SValue is too expensive for that type of shop.
We have had our local lady doctor here staying as she lives at Woodbury and they have no power and phone and she cannot be contacted out there. Then her two children have stayed the last couple of nights as they have been elsewhere and she was missing them too much. They also brought their 2 pet rabbits here last night as they have been missing them - so gorgeous but peed on the couch and seat!
As an aside I am very curious Cheese about your after ball party setup. Geraldine is having its ball in August, and there is not supposed to be an after ball party. There were problems here years ago and the teachers do not want to go there again!Who organised yours? How was it run? Was there alcohol allowed? .....etc. There is always a worry of problems after the ball, once the alcohol gets involved. I know the kids cant understand it, but thats just the way it is. We had a job getting the ball thing happening again here as so many of the teachers wouldnt even go there, so we dont want to lose it again!!
Anyway, sorry to digress, just had to ask about that.
Well time to sign off.
Hope all the Twizelites have a good night tonight. I would loved to have been there and have a good catchup.Congrats Glenda for your birthday - enjoy your pink night. I have a selection of pink gifts sitting here to bring up!!
Hope you Youngs enjoy the rest of your trip. It will be good to see you sometime and hear about your travels. Thanks Sara from Vict on your txts. She always loves receiving them.Kate will be thinking of heading south for some of the white powder! The scenery is certainly amazing if it did not cause so much hassle!
Forgot to say - Ben is back over in America. Left Mon night and was busy making the bike tracks before the kids started on Thurs I think? US customs were going to charge him $100US for his bike, but somehow he got around it. He wanted to take his bike this time as the camp bikes are very basic. We look forward to hearing from him and hearing about they are doing. Others from last year are going back again, so it will be fun to see them again.
Well here goes - I hope I dont lose this one too.
Love, hugs and warm fuzzies from us all.
Cynthia, Victoria, Mike, Ben, Andrew and James.

p.s gidday to the family!
Dear Frozen Kiwis
We hope that the snow is melting, power is being reconnected and you are all warm.
We have been checking out the temps and snowy views on the computer and received some great photo's from friends and family. (Brrrrr)
Stephens family and Cheese. Here in Canada they have "Dry Grad" after Ball parties. Usually at the school hall, or where the Ball was held. Students can change from their Ball gear into something more casual but organizers have music (band or disco)for them, run a casino evening, games, prizes are given out during the night and their are some amazing prizes donated by businesses. The bigger prizes are held to the later hours to keep everyone at the event. In Kimberley a local car dealership would donate two vans for the evening and firemen and first aid attendants would drive the vehicles (shift work) to ensure everyone gets home safe. It is a "dry" Grad so no Alchohol but it seems to go over well.
Anyway I hope the YOung-ones travels go well and you are catching up with lots of family.
We are planning a long weekend trip up to Smithers soon so hopefully we might make it a little further and catch up with Aunty Ruth in Kitimat or Terrace.
Off getting winter wood tonight, hopefully that last load for the summer. Pauline and Anna Menzies are arriving on the 8th July so it will be fun to have them here.
Keep Safe.
Well its snowing again here in Twizel so will take more pxts and send them to Kates phone. Have a safe journey back to the Mainland. Its pretty cold down these ways so before you get off the plane wrap up in your winter woolies! Arohanui na me
